Seaside Away Day

Sunday 17th July 2022

2022 Seaside poster
Come and join us for a typical British family day out - to the seaside!

We are hiring a coach to take us to Hunstanton - a typical British seaside town on the north Norfolk coast - where there are lots of things to do for all ages, such as:

Hunstanton map2

  • Beach: The seafront and beach at Hunstanton really does cater for all tastes: younger children have amusements, funfair, pony rides etc, as well as a gently shelving sandy beach. Older visitors can enjoy walks past the cliffs along quieter parts of the beach
  • SEA LIFE Centre: (It is best to pre-book this online at www.visitsealife.com/hunstanton/). Here, you will need 2-3 hours to discover:
    • Penguin Beach: learn how to waddle with 20 mischievous and adorable Humboldt penguins
    • Inca Terns: watch out for 'the birds with moustaches' as they fly and dive above your head!
    • Otter River: venture to the outdoor zones and see the Asian short-clawed otters splash about and snack on their favourite treats - peanuts!
  • Heritage Centre: This is a great little museum with lots of information and finds about the heritage of Hunstanton and surrounding areas. You’ll need 1-2 hours for this.
  • Kayaking: (It is best to pre-book this online at https://www.hunstantonkayaks.co.uk/). 'Sit on top' kayaks are for hire (single or doubles are available) and they also have wetsuits for hire. They also run guided tours around the many sandbanks just off the coast of Hunstanton, where you may see some of the many seals that live and breed here.
  • Blackbeard’s Adventure Golf: (http://ww1.blackbeardshunstanton.com/) A super crazy golf course for all the family You’ll need 1-2 hours for this.
  • Hunstanton Watersports: (It is best to pre-book this online at https://www.hunstantonwatersports.com/). A variety of water sports are available here, including kitesurfing and paddleboarding.

What About Food?

You can of course bring a picnic to eat on the beach, but there are plenty of food outlets of all types in Hunstanton. No typical British day out at the beach would be complete without a fish and chip lunch, so - if you like - we can provide one for you to enjoy. There's no obligation to have this, but - well - what else would you want to eat at the British seaside but fish and chips?

Please note that the fish and chips will be cod and chips. The portions are pretty generous so if an adult and young child shared one portion, neither would go hungry.

Schedule For The Day

The plan for the day is as follows:

  • 09:30: coach leaves from the bus stop by the Storey's Field Centre (Eddington Avenue, Eddington CB3 1AA).
  • c11:30: arrive in Hunstanton
  • 13:00: optional fish and chip/picnic lunch on the beach
  • 16:00: coach picks us up from Hunstanton
  • c18:00: coach arrives back at the Storey's Field Centre.

What To Bring With You

We suggest that you bring the following with you:

  • Sun cream (yes, it might be sunny!)
  • Rain jacket (well, it is Britain...)
  • Sun hat (...but then again it might be sunny!)
  • Swimming costume (if you are going in the sea!)
  • Beach shoes/sliders/flip flops
  • Beach towels
  • Bucket and spade (for building sandcastles!)
  • Food for a picnic lunch (if you are not having fish and chips)
  • Bottles of water
  • Cash for ice-creams etc.

Regarding child car seats: please note that the UK government states that, on a coach:

"Children can travel without a child car seat or seat belt, if they’re not available."

(Source: https://www.gov.uk/child-car-seats-the-rules/when-a-child-can-travel-without-a-car-seat)

This means in effect that children are not  required by law to use a child car seat on a coach that does not have them already fitted. The coach we are using for this trip is fitted with three point seat belts for the use of all passengers. If you wish to bring your own car seat for your child, you may do so, but please be aware that there are only a limited number of anchor points on the coach for car seats requiring these.

Costs

The costs for the day are:

  • £8 per person for the return journey on the coach only
  • £18 per person for combined coach travel and fish and chips lunch (note - this will be for cod and chips only)

Unfortunately we cannot offer concessionary prices for children etc.

Accessibility

There is wheelchair access and a disabled toilet on the ground floor. There is wheelchair access to the first floor by lift.

Our Sunday Service

The main service begins at 10:00am with a warm welcome from one of our leadership team. Then follows a time of  worship, led by our band. Sometimes a person might pray out loud or read a small passage from the Bible. Sometimes people share things that they believe God is saying to the whole church family. This might seem strange the first time that you hear it, but it’s all part of our connecting with God. One of our leaders will then give a sermon that is Bible-based and that we can apply to our everyday life. We then finish with a final worship song. There is always an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.

What About My Kids?

We have a great programme lined up for kids of all ages (click on them to find out more about them):

We really value worshipping God together as a family, so we encourage children stay with their parent or grown-up at the start of the service for the welcome, songs and notices. After this, the children will go to their various groups. You will need to go with your children to their groups and register them as part of our Safeguarding Policy.

The kids' group activities vary depending on the age but usually there is a friendly welcome, Bible stories, testimonies, praying, music, craft, drama, fun games and free play. Please pick your children up as soon as the service finishes.

Getting Connected

Small Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some afternoons and some evenings. Check out our Midweek Groups page and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.

Serving & Volunteering

If you want to get involved in the life of the church and help us make Sundays run smoothly, you can sign up to serve on a team.

Other Ministries

We also run the following ministries (click on them to find out more about them):

Pastor Ian Rawley

Carole Rawley

In 1974 I had an encounter with God that changed my life, causing me a few years later to train as a pastor. As well as leading New Life Church, over the last few decades I have had the immense privilege of helping to equip church leaders in many nations of the world. Welcome to our website & our church!

Hello and welcome! I decided to follow Jesus when I was 15 years old and it has been the greatest adventure of my life! At New Life Church, I lead our youth ministry and our women's ministry. I also work alongside Ian and our leadership team in overseeing our pastoral care. We are here to serve you!

We are looking forward to welcoming you to New Life Church and hope you enjoy your time with us.
